December Challenge
What the Holidays Mean to You
The holiday season is upon us. Everyone is shopping, baking and planning trips to visit family and friends. This month’s CGGE challenge is asking “What do the Holidays mean to you?”
Take a moment to reflect on the answer to that question. I’m sure it will be different for many of us and I hope it inspires you to create.
The contest begins December 1st and ends promptly at 11:59 PM EST on December 26th.
Each member may submit one entry only in stained, fused, lampworked or mosaic glass.
The entry must be listed in your Etsy shop. All entries are to be posted to the CGGE Challenge Group site on Flickr.
Voting will be open to all Etsy members and the winner of the challenge will be featured on our CGGE Home Page.
Good luck to all of you who enter the challenge!

November Challenge
November Challenge:
The theme for the CGGE’s November Challenge is “Thankful For….”
As the title implies, this is a good time of year for all of us to think of the things in our lives that we are thankful for -- our families, our health, our freedoms, and so much more.
Each person’s blessings are as diverse as their individuality. Therefore, we encourage you to pause, observe and reflect on the things that bring you joy, serenity and happiness.
Visualize in your mind a work of art that encompasses those feelings. Now head for the studio and create your inspired entry for this month's CGGE Challenge using the theme "Thankful for....".
The contest begins November 1 and ends promptly at midnight EST November 25th.
Each member may submit one entry only in stained, fused, lamp-worked or mosaic glass.
The entry must be listed in your Etsy shop.
All entries are to be posted to the CGGE Challenge Group site on Flickr.
Voting will be open to all and the winner of the challenge will be featured on our CGGE Home Page.
So CGGE artists, put your thinking caps on again this month and let the world know what you’re especially thankful for in you life.

Congratulations go to Stacey of JS Glass Art for her plate titled, “Black Oak Leaves”.
What a wonderful selection of contest entries! We definitely have great talent and creativity in the CGGE group. Thanks to everyone who participated in this month’s challenge.
Congratulations go to Stacey of JS Glass Art for her plate titled, “Black Oak Leaves”.
Stacey has been working with glass for 10 years. She initially became interested in stained glass. Then, she transitioned into fused glass. Stacey plans to eventually tackle torch work skills as well.
Her winning entry was inspired by the Black Oak tree that is native to California. As one of the few trees in the region that changes colors in the fall, Stacey was inspired to duplicate its beauty in her glass plate.
As a proud member of CGGE, Stacey loves being a part of our glass group where ideas are shared freely and there is always help with glass working techniques.
You can find more of Stacey’s creative glass work at her Etsy shop: http://www.jsglassart.etsy.com/.

September Challenge Winner
September's Challenge Winner:
The CGGE is thrilled to announce that the winner of September's challenge is Dawn of First Light Glass. We asked for entries on the topic of School Days, and her pendant entitled "Homework vs TV" was inspired by Dawn's own experiences with her children as they start back at school after the long summer break. Dawn said "As a mother of three children, aged 12, 10 and 8, my piece sums up the daily afternoon battle. It's such a feeling of relief each evening when the books are put away and we can relax and enjoy family time together"
Dawn has been working with glass medium since 2003, having always painted and enjoyed being creative, she took up stained glass when she found a class on offer with her local church. Several years ago she learned fusing, and soon had a kiln and home studio set up. You can see from her shop that she has many fans and a great output of work.
She told us that her favorite piece in her shop right now is her lime and cobalt blue geometric plate, with the great colours and the contrast between the transparent and opaque glass.
You can see it here...http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=11643044
As with most crafters with a busy home life she is not yet ready for the Christmas rush. "I have my designs planned out but need more time in my studio to get my designs in the kiln. With the holiday season rapidly approaching, I will now make studio time a priority.", she told us.
We hear you, Dawn!!

JULY CHALLENGE WINNER: Congratulations Designs By Christine!
JULY CHALLENGE RESULTS - "Your favorite item in your shop"
Well, what an interesting month. We had 23 entries into our challenge, and 105 voters took part. We would like to thank everyone who participated. We had a very varied selection of entries which shows how eclectic our group is. From fusing to lampwork, copper-foiled work to painting, we have a talented group of glass artists working in a variety of styles, which makes the voters' choice very difficult indeed.
This month's winner is Designs by Christine for her Dogwood Blossoms Platter.
You can see the winning entry here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=12958275
Visit her shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=47617
Chris has worked with glass for over 29 years from her studio in Michigan. Her main output is glass jewelry, but as you can see from her winning entry, she obviously has a talent for home accessories too. She says "I love to work with glass! Stained glass, fused glass, blown glass, stepping stones, lamp-working, and everything else that has to do with glass. I am very much into experimenting with my glass and love to take classes and learn to do new things. Some call me an artist but I don't consider myself one....yet!" Well sorry to argue with you Chris, but this win shows that you are!
Congratulations again to Christine and to all of our entrants, and we hope that you will participate in our August challenge.
